I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Akilam for her internship with the nonprofit Be A Rose which distributes feminine hygiene products and provides health education to women in need in Grand Rapids. Akilam is currently studying to major in Public and Nonprofit Administration with an emphasis in Community Health and a minor in African and African American Studies. Watch out, Grand Rapids! Akilam is going to be making waves!
